097 | Building a Creative Business w/ Jo Wilson Design

097 | Building a Creative Business with Graphic Designer Jo Wilson of Jo Wilson Design

Welcome to Law of Effortlessness Podcast with your Amazon Best Selling Author and resident #businessyoda Shannon Bush!

Today Shannon is joined by Jo Wilson, from Jo Wilson Design. You might recognize Jo’s work from the beautifully designed, and illustrations from The Thrive Factor Book! After 20+ years of working for various design studios crossing the globe from South Africa to England and across to Australia, I decided to branch out and start my own business. My focus is offering personal quality creative design to help small business owners bring their big dreams to life. What makes my heart light up is creating branding and visuals for businesses that create work that matters and change people’s lives.

Jo is so much more than a logo designer – she’s excited by styling a brand so is personal, beautiful and unique. Shannon chats with Jo about what a visual brand is drilling in deep plucking out the essential ideas and elements of their business and translating it into a beautiful, visual brand.

Shannon and Jo talk about the frustrations of graphic design and the rise of DIY branding with tools and apps like Canva.

Jo shares her main frustration is inconsistency with switching up visuals in tools like Canva, rather than the consistency being built into a brand when working with a Graphic Designer. You’ll also get to hear the best tips on preparing to work with a Graphic Designer, and making the most of the experience and clues that it’s time to bring on a Designer like feeling embarrassed or ashamed to share business cards or refer people to your website.

Pearls of Wisdom

“You have all different aspects of your brand – there’s your voice, the way you write, the way you’re photographed. Your logo is just one part of a larger whole.” – Jo Wilson

“I love the jobs where I get to add more creativity into it…add that extra bit of human touch.” – Jo Wilson

“It doesn’t have to be a whole complete package. It can be little steps by little steps.” – Jo Wilson

“Nature is my biggest inspirations, I go for walks and it’s where I get inspired to do things.” – Jo Wilson

“You can’t compare yourself to other people, they are in completely different places.” – Jo Wilson

The Thrive Factor Book Series Law of Effortlessness Podcast Elle Roberts Ashleigh Rae Shannon Bush Pioneer Seeker Effortless Success Zone Thriving Entrepreneur

Pioneer Seeker Thrive Factor Archetype

Welcome to the Law of Effortlessness Podcast with your #businessyoda host, Shannon Bush today joined by two cheeky and pioneering women, Elle Roberts and Ashleigh Rae. In this episode, Shannon Bush speaks with Elle Roberts and Ashleigh about the Pioneer Seeker Thrive Factor Archetype. This lady is the early adopter of new ideas and technology and is constantly innovating. She is also cheeky and playful and others can find it difficult to keep up with her.

Elle starts off the episode with some information about herself and her business, and how its evolved. Elle identifies when she learned about her archetypes and lists them as Mentor Teacher, Inspirer Believer, Liberator Engineer, Shapeshifter Alchemist, and Pioneer Seeker. She shares with us how she felt when she learned what her archetypes were, and how learning them clarified some things about herself.

Elle talks about how difficult it was starting her business as a single mom, and how shy she was about it starting out. She explains how she had to learn the aspects of a business that she didn’t know, and how she reached out to others to join her in her business. Elle shares with us the disadvantages and challenges of being a Pioneer Seeker, and how she wants to learn and try everything. Elle imparts some words of wisdom on us about being a Pioneer Seeker, and how it shapes you.

In part two of this episode, you’ll hear from Ashleigh Rae, her business and how she first came to meet her Pioneer Seeker Archetype in early 2018, along with her other two Thrive Factor Archetypes – the Inspirer Believer and Shape Shifter Alchemist. You’ll hear how at first, Ashleigh didn’t know what to do with the knowledge of her archetypes, and how she didn’t love them or interact with them – and then how she began to embrace them.

She identifies which archetype she has had the most trouble with, and talks about the challenges that each archetype brings into her life. Ashleigh Rae also talks about how her archetypes have helped her, both in her business life and in her personal life. She mentions other personality tests she’s done before, and how she felt like they never really fit her. She identifies the weaknesses of other personality tests and emphasizes how strong the archetype test is and how she uses it to profile her clients.

The episode ends with Ashleigh giving advice for those who share her archetypes, and giving words of encouragement. To hear Ashleigh’s advice, tune in to this episode! And if you’re curious about your archetypes, check out Shannon Bush’s The Thrive Factor Book!

Pearls of Wisdom

“I’m a huge ideas person, and it took me a long time to wrap my head around this. I had to learn it’s OK to embrace and hug the Bright Shiny Objects.” – Ashleigh Rae

“Your archetypes are a filter to guide you in how you want to show up, and what you want to do” – Shannon Bush

“I often feel like how come there are not more people standing right here with me, and learning about that Pioneer Seeker and that adventurous, you know, just keep going doing the next new thing, was like oh, that’s why it feels like there’s no one next to me. It’s not that nobody wants to be my friend, it’s that I’m in this different space” – Elle Roberts

Shannon also asks about the challenges Aesha experiences, including her patience in waiting for an invitation to share her ideas rather than be the first in there and overwhelming her audience. This is exacerbated by the challenge of the Mentor Teacher, who is driven to share all her knowledge but can be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of gained learning and the desire to share great value. Aesha shares how she almost threw away her online business because it felt so hard, but meeting her archetypes supported her to embrace doing business on her own terms, in her own way that worked best for her.

You’ll also hear Aesha talk about how she never considered herself a Teacher, and it took some time for her to embrace the Mentor Teacher part of herself as coming from a deeper place inside herself. As a Mediator Diplomat Thrive Factor Archetype, Aesha also learned what this meant to her: as a balance to her creative flow, embracing and expressing self-care and nourishment of the mind, body and soul.

Aesha shares how at first, this didn’t make a lot of sense to her but once she learned more deeply about this side of herself it all clicked and she identified strongly with “The Muse.” She also began to see how this showed up for her – when she was off-balance she noticed she was usually uninspired and not her usual creative self, and so made changes to keep herself inspired and full of new ideas and creative possibilities.

Welcome back to a new episode of the Law of Effortlessness Podcast where right now, we’re celebrating the launch of Amazon Bestseller, The Thrive Factor Book by #businessyoda Shannon Bush! If you’ve been tuning in recently you know we’re getting up close and personal with each of the 12 personal leadership Archetypes for women in business from The Thrive Factor Book and today, we have the pleasure of meeting the Liberator Engineer with guests Helen Hart, Stephanie Powell and Shannon Bush as they share the joys and challenges and strengths this freedom loving archetype presents!

The Liberator Engineer is a lover of engineering systems and processes that result in freedom for herself, her biggest challenge is understanding what freedom means to her in all forms, and when freedom isn’t present she becomes frustrated and can even have something of a volcanic eruption or implosion of anger or illness.

Join Shannon for the inside scoop on the Liberator Engineer from Clinical Hypnotherapist and Neuroscience Researcher Helen Hart. Helen shares when she very first discovered The Thrive Factor Archetypes back in 2013 with the launch of Shannon’s first best selling book and the freedom she found in those pages and understanding that came with it. Helen delights in her love of structure and process which gives her the gift of freedom.

Stay tuned to hear from Associate Lawyer, Stephanie Powell who shares her experience of the Liberator Engineer and how for a long time, she felt like her personality kept contradicting itself but when she met Shannon and learned her Archetypes, she felt a huge shift and as if there was an explanation for who she was. You’ll also hear from the Liberator Engineer #businessyoda herself, Shannon Bush as she shares her experiences of being a structure and freedom-loving Liberator Engineer including how she was surprised to discover this side of herself! The Thrive Factor Book Launch is happening soon!

The Thrive Factor Book Cover | Shannon Bush | Creative Possibility | Business Women | Archetypes for women

Super excited to let you know about something very cool that is happening very soon. In fact in the next week or two…

My new book is launching!

After what seems like forever, this book is finally coming to life and the date my team and I are working towards is a Kindle launch for end of January 2019 swiftly followed by the launch of the paperback version.

The best way to be the first to hear how you can get your copy is to register your interest at www.thethrivefactorbook.com.au. We will send an email out as soon as we have more information, which should be very soon.

What’s the book about?  Well if you have followed me for any length of time you will know about the archetypal personal leadership framework I created in 2010 and 2011. It was featured in my Amazon best selling book in 2013, Personal Leadership Style.

Back then I was working with the archetypes with my female clients and focusing on their personal attributes, strengths and challenges. However I was nearly solely working with women in business and so began to map the things I was seeing repeated for each archetype in relation to mindset, marketing, money and magnetism. The information was consistently well received when I shared it with clients and participants in programs like Market To Thrive.

So in 2017 I began taking the dream of writing a new book and started to put the words together. It’s been a mamoth task that has involved many people and it is now so close to being no longer a dream, but a reality.

Over the last couple of years my fascination with thriving has also evolved and deepened/ It seemed only right to me to review what the framework was previously christened. So the archetypes are now referred to as the Thrive Factor Archetypes and this new book is all about you, as a business woman, getting to know yourself, unlocking your effortless success zone and totally thriving.

Cannot wait to hear what you think about it when you get to read it.

For now, though, head to www.thethrivefactorbook.com.au and register your interest.

Let’s get excited about thriving! Totally thriving!

You’ll also hear some incredible tips on how to get the support you need in your thriving business in the beginning, and where to look for help and support to grow your business.

Sonia is the designer and face behind Dandelyne™. The home of the original miniature embroidery hoop. Dandelyne™ is about small-scale embroidery projects that are satisfying, rewarding, soul-boosting and frankly, just look so darn cute on any outfit. Her business began in 2011. Sonia chose to design and stitch her first family portrait; her family’s. Sonia learned to embroider at the age of 7 and had not embroidered since. However, on numerous occasions over the years she remembered how it made her feel: EUPHORIC. The little flame that was ignited so many years ago suddenly became an enormous, crazy bushfire! As Sonia stitched, she found herself daydreaming not only about small and simple embroidery projects but also about small, teeny tiny embroidery hoops. To quote the film Robots, “See a need, fill a need.” Sonia thought if she wanted tiny projects and tiny hoops there must be others who wanted these too! At the time she designed the Dandelyne miniature hoop there was absolutely nothing like it out there, and Sonia is proud to say that she is the original designer. Now, Stitchers worldwide can frame their stitchy awesomeness and wear it loud and proud in a Dandelyne mini embroidery hoop.
