10 Empowering Reasons To Put Yourself First (Bonus Downloadable Wallchart Included)

I am always so inspired by the moment that someone I am meeting for the first time puts their hand up to say

“I’m not going to do this any more – I deserve more for me!”

and decides there and then that they are going to take back control and lead their lives – that’s personal leadership and that’s why I do what I do – for those moments

It makes me believe in the human spirit, in all things Creative Possibility and in myself and my commitment to lead by example

How often have you stopped to reflect on how much you are really giving to yourself that is loving, nurturing and freeing?

Over the past few weeks I have had some really interesting experiences with a number of clients and have seen a big shift in their self commitment.  This has left me feeling elated.  Why?  Just over a week ago I shared the above message on my Facebook page which possibly gives some insight

Today I want to expand on this further by sharing 10 empowering reason’s why I think you need to put yourself first and with that I hope to inspire you to put yourself first (and yes, as always I am committed to leading by example so I am doing my bit and taking my own advice!)

Right at the end of the list you’ll find a wall chart that you can download and print to keep as a reminder of why it’s important to put yourself first.  There’s a few extra spaces so you can add your own reason’s too because there is great inner power in self inspiration

10 Empowering Reasons To Put Yourself First

Give Up Or Choose To Take Back Control?

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to spend some time with a client of mine who is in a big space of struggle right now.  The premises where his business is based have been sold and he has less than 2 months to move

Now the fact that the premises were to be sold didn’t come out of the blue.  He knew about it a short time ago and we’d been working together to take control and get decisions made and actions taken to support a move to a new home.  In fact just last week during coaching we’d set up a moving file and started a list of all the things he’d have to do when moving time came

He’d voiced many mixed feelings about the incredible uncertainty that comes when the place you lease for work is going to sooner than later be owned by someone else who may not want you to stay.  Everything he shared were what I’d call usual responses to uncertainty.  In fact I knew many of them myself from when we sold our home last year and I had to find somewhere to work from quite quickly

The thing is, when the call came to say there was to be a new owner and that he was going to have to move it was like he was hearing it out of the blue, for the first time.  He was devastated and struggled with what to do.  He felt powerless, helpless, like all the decisions had been taken away from him and he just didn’t know what to do

Luckily I found out what head and heart space he was in and was able to drop in and visit him in person with little notice after another client I visit just 10 mins from his business wrapped up their session significantly earlier than expected

Within just 2 hours we were able to work together to turn things around and go from “I am thinking of closing the business down completely “ to genuine positivity and action.  The key thing I want to highlight here is ‘work together’!

(as a side thing I love the image above that my assistant found for the Creative Possibility Facebook page just the end of last week!  it’s perfect)

What Are You Saying This Year?

Ultimate Blog Challenge Post 6

In light of yesterday’s message about discovering and using your own voice I wanted to share with you a little exercise to help you get clear on what you’re saying this year

Last year I started the year off with lots of reflection on the previous year (it’s something I do every year to be honest) and one of the most important things I did was to create a set of statements that captured my intentions, my beliefs, my passions, my creativity and my own limitlessness.  I stuck them on the wall next to my desk in my office and I glance at them every day

When it came to doing this year’s reflection this little image with all of it’s statements really stuck out to me as one of the most profound tools I used during Creative Possibility Year Intention Statmentsthe previous year.  I love the messages as much today as when I created them and while I’ll create new ones for this year that’s not to replace those of 2012 but to add to them!  As an added bonus it was fun and simple to create and probably most importantly it was creative so I got to have some right brain fun (you can see my statements for 2012 to the right)

Why not create some empowering statements of intention for yourself, decorate them and place them somewhere they can nurture your year

Until next time I wish you a limitless life filled with succulent, effortless success

Embracing The Real You: 3 Questions To Help You Discover And Speak With Your Own Voice

Ultimate Blog Challenge Post 5

In today’s post I promised to share the first of 3 Counter-Actions To Take To Show Up As The Real You a genuine effortless success creating strategy that’ll support you to address any challenges that have arisen from your personal identity confusion, a theme we’re expanding on currently

So what to do to combat comparison, one of the biggest contributors to identity confusion and block to you being and sharing the real you?

Use Your VoiceSpeak with your own voice!

Now some may tell you this should be child’s play.  In my experience speaking with your own voice can be a real challenge.  That’s compounded by the degree of comparison you’re wrapped up or trapped in.  Here’s 3 steps to help you discover and speak with your own voice

1. Ask yourself “What will it take for me to stop comparing myself to others?”

This is an extension of what I shared yesterday and I do have a tendency to bang on about this topic as it’s something I’m passionate about.  Comparison is something you have to shed if you’re to discover and speak from your own voice.  This question may seem simple but it’s very powerful so ask away, allow yourself the space and some quiet time to hear the answer and then take action and follow what you hear

2. Ask yourself “When I share with others (with my spoken or written voice) what am I most passionate about, what makes my heart sing?”

Visioning Life Resolutions

Ultimate Blog Challenge Day 2Visioning Life Resolutions

I have to be honest that as someone who works with people on their goals and achieving them (as effortlessly as possible of course), at this time of year there feels like an expectation that I should write something about goal setting, making new years resolutions, planning, intention setting, reflecting and so on and so on

The problem I have with that is that these activities are something I believe you should do regularly.  They are not just for the new year.  How can you expect to achieve what you want in life if you don’t regularly reflect, plan, take action and celebrate when you get the results you’ve worked for?  I don’t think you can.  Nothing happens by accident.  The outcomes you experience are a direct result of the effort you put in and the intention and planning around that.  It’s a wholistic process and experience in my opinion

Saying all that I noticed one very awesome term in a story I read on-line yesterday.  It was about making and visioning life resolutions, not just saving them for new year each year.  I loved how limitless that was and decided that my resolutions (the intentions I have and the committed action I’m going to take) are going to be life long, not just for the first few weeks of the coming year

My life resolutions are

1. To be a healthy person

2. To fill my days with colour and live

3. To make and sustain meaningful, purposeful, equal connections with dynamic, creative, inspiring people

4. To tell the people I love that I love them as much as possible

5. To release any limitations that are holding me back from living my own innate potential and realising the dreams I have for myself, my family, my clients, my community, my world

If you took 5 minutes right now to create 5 life resolutions what would they be?  Share yours below

2013: What Does It Mean To Me?

It’s the first day of the new year.  A time when people feel tired, a little worse for wear after celebrations the night before.  A time to reflect and to decide that things really are to be different this year.  Take a moment to think about your 2012 and all that happened in the past 12 months.  Use today and in fact the entire month of January to make conscious choices about how the next 12 months are going to be for you

I’m starting the year by participating in the Ultimate Blog Challenge hosted by a dear friend Michelle Shaeffer (I had Michelle feature as a guest on last week’s podcast episode of my radio show – listen in here!) and her colleague Michele Scism – together they have been running 4 successful challenges each year teaching bloggers how to get their blogs to soar!

What does this mean?  It means I’ll be posting something every day for the coming month.  It’ll likely just be a short message on my reflections over the month as I take up my own challenge to make conscious choices about how the next 12 months are going to be for me in my life and business

Day 1: 2013 What Does It Mean To Me?Happy New Year

2013 is for me a fresh start.  I’ll be totally honest here, 2012 sucked for me in so many ways.  It also held some of the greatest opportunities for me to gain self understanding and on a professional level it was a successful year for me.  I achieved goals I didn’t really think I would, made and sustained some inspiring and powerful connections, worked with more and more committed, passionate, determined clients who saw abundant results in their own lives and businesses and so much more

That said I ended 2012 tired.  No, make that exhausted!

I am now excited about the prospects of the new year but wondering where to get the motivation, drive and determination I need to make it as successful as I know it has the potential to be.  So 2013 to me is all about self support.  It is about balancing my energy, taking time out when I know I need to, not when I fall in a heap.  It is about filling myself with nourishment – good food, plenty of activity, inspiring learning, saying yes to dynamite opportunities, connecting with people who speak my language and are willing to support me and receive my support in return.  It’s about loving and being loved.  It’s about colour and feeling fully alive each and every day.  It’s about things being effortless, easy, free and limitless

It’s going to be a great year.  I can just feel it!

What’s 2013 mean to you?  love you to share your thoughts below

Who Are You? Overcoming Identity Confusion Part 1

Who are you?  Is this a question that sends you into a flat spin, leaves you with a blank expression or fills your head with an overwhelming number of possibilities?

Knowing who you are is one of the most interesting journey’s you can take in life.  It has the potential to be filled with discovery and wonder, curiosity and amazement, purpose and potential and yet as a question “Who are you?” or more to the point “Who am I?” is referred to regularly as the one question that leaves a large majority of people feeling confused and challenged on a daily basis

Recently I’ve been working with a new set of clients and while their challenges have been varied, the primary root cause underlying their frustrations and limitations has been confusion.  Specifically self confusion which I see as potential identity crisis.  This topic has come up so often that I wanted to share with you a little about identity, identity confusion and how to overcome it over the course of December

First up let’s take a look at the first question to ask ourselves.  “What is identity?”

Identity is the underlying element of who we are.  It’s how we define ourselves – our sense of self.  It is also how others define us – and may, particularly in relation to business be described using words such as brand or branding, personal brand or reputation

It is also the sum of all of these things – who we are, our sense of self and how others define us

It is all of the different roles we play – partner, parent, business owner, friend, sibling, speaker, creator, marketing manager, author, student, and employer and so on

What Sort Of Leader Are You?

Personal Leadership, also known as Self-Leadership, has been a passion of mine for quite some time.  Along side this I have had a life-long interest in understanding people.  By understanding I mean how we work, what makes us tick, how we relate to each other and how individuals can discover and share their innate gifts, something I call your Innate Potential

Innate Potential is the sum of all of our archetypal patterns, thoughts, beliefs, behaviours and actions.  It’s the expression of the gifts and challenges we were born with and the magical future we are yet to create.  In an effort to aid self understanding and the discovery or re-discovery of the many innate aspects to each individual I began to explore the connection between Archetypes and Personal Leadership.  What I discovered was that there were indeed a set leadership styles that were resonant with my understanding of Archetypes as a way to define similar patterns of expression in individuals

The Innate Potential Model of Leadership has at it’s core 12 individual leadership styles.  Each Personal Leadership Archetype captures a unique set of attributes that show up in all of us.  We each have all of the Archetypes within, but we have some that are much more dominant in us that others

The 12 Archetypal Personal Leadership styles are

  • Advocate Rescuer
  • Heroine Adventurer
  • Inspirer Believer
  • Liberator Engineer
  • Mediator Diplomat
  • Mentor Teacher
  • Mother Nurturer
  • Networker Connector
  • Pioneer Seeker
  • Queen Ruler
  • Shapeshifter Alchemist
  • Visionary Creator
